• Players must be ages 6 or 7 as of May 1, 2025.
• Practices on Wednesday evenings; Games played on Saturdays at 9:45am

Clinic Rules

• Team size is limited to 8-10 players.
• Every player plays the field and bats every inning.
• Coaches pitch to their own team and pitches are thrown overhand from a kneeling position.
• Coaches play catcher.
• There are no strikeouts (the tee will be brought out after 3 swinging strikes).
• If an out is recorded in the field, the player does not reach base.
• No walks, extra base hits, stealing, bunting or advancing on an overthrow.
• The last player up hits a home run and clears the bases.
• Inning ends when the last player has batted (even if three outs were recorded earlier).
• Games will last no longer than 1 1/2 hours. 3 innings is the guideline for a game.

Rookie is the introductory level to competitive baseball. For the first time, your child's games look and feel like "real" baseball. Coaches focus on developing a more comprehensive understanding of the game and building sound fundamental mechanics. This is also the first time many players experience being called out, losing a game or not getting to play "their" position. These can be difficult experiences and parents are encouraged to treat them as teachable moments. In an effort to promote healthy competitive play, establishing equity between teams is a priority at the Rookie level. Subsequently, the honoring of requests to have players on the same team cannot be guaranteed.

There is a one year overlap in ages between the Clinic and Rookie Divisions. Players who have played one year in Clinic and are ready to handle a more competitive environment are encouraged to register for Rookie instead of another year of Clinic.

• The TRC recreational baseball is an "equal participation" program for all committed and participating players regardless of skill and experience level. All players play equal time in the field and play the infield and outfield in each game.
• Practices begin in April.
• During the first half of the season, all pitching is full distance, overhand coach pitch. In the second half of the season, the first three innings of each game is player pitch (with the last two innings still being coach pitch).
• Please note: Teams at the Rookie division and higher are assembled via a draft, therefore teammate and coach requests cannot be guaranteed.

9/10 Division introduces full time “Player Pitch.”  Coaches continue their focus on solid fundamental mechanics and a more expanded understanding of the game.  Basic in-game strategies will be introduced and multi-player defensive plays become more common place. Players are expected to show strong development in these areas during their time in the 9/10 Division.

Parents are encouraged to assist during practices so time with players can be maximized.

11/12 Division introduces base stealing.  Coaches continue to focus on fundamental mechanics to maximize each player's growing potential.  Most MLB rules are followed with minor exceptions which are detailed in the rule book.  Adult umpires are employed to handle the complexity and speed of the games.

Parents are encouraged to assist during practices so time with players can be maximized.
