Code of Conduct for Coaches DMS

All coaches involved with the Dumbarton Middle School/Towson Recreation Council must adhere to the following Code of Conduct. I understand that failure to adhere to the Code of Conduct will result in ejection from the program and possible ejection from all TRC programs.

Tryouts

Starting with the 2018 season we will be having Towson Highs School coaches and varsity players evaluate running and evaluating players during tryouts. Coaches are absolutely allowed to be and participate at try outs but THS will do over all be in charge.

  • Coaches will participate in evaluations with an open mind. Coaches will NOT hold spots for players that are not able to tryouts for any reason.

  • Coaches will NOT hold spots for friends of players.

  • Coaches will rely on evaluators for feedback on players trying out on for the team

    Games and Practices

  • Coaches agree to abide by the rules, guidelines, and decisions of the program director and administrator.

  • Coaches will at all times show respect for the rules, opponents and officials. If I disagree with an official or the coach of opposing team, I will show respect by being silent. I will NEVER argue with referees and or the coaches of opposing team.

  • Coaches will refrain from negative comments about the opposing teams coaches, players, or officials in the presence of players and parents. I will accept the performance of the referees/officials. If there is a problem with a referee/official I will contact DMS Program Coordinator.

  • Coaches will respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every person regardless of their gender, sex, ability, cultural background, or religion.
  • Coaches will place emotional and physical well-being of players ahead of a personal desire to win.

  • Coaches will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all players.

  • Coaches will make sure you are on time to practices and games with the required equipment. You are expected to be at all games and practices unless of emergency.
  • Please contact your assistant coach in event of emergency.

  • Coaches will be a positive role model for all players, and have realistic expectations. I will always include fun in the sport.

  • Coaches will make sure that I have all appropriate training equipment and will and the appropriate training skills to improve players through the season. I will give constructive feedback to players when needed.

  • Coaches will allow injured players ample time to recuperate. If player is injured I will assess the situation before allowing back in the game. If player has head injury that player immediately should be removed from the game and assessed for concussion before returning to game.

  • Coaches will maintain communication with parents. Example parents will email if practice or game will be missed and any team information.

  • Coaches will rely on evaluators for feedback on players trying out on for the team

  • Coaches will remember that you are a youth sports coach, and that the game is for the children NOT the adults.
